1996 Yukon - Rearview mirror fell off

Hello:

This is my first time posting. I did a search of this and couldn't find an answer, so hopefully someone can help me out. I've got a 1996 Yukon. It is not my primary car, so it normally sits in the driveway during the week. Anyway, yesterday when I walked by my car, I noticed that the rearview mirror had fallen off. Though it attaches to the windshield it looks like there is a type of metallic base that is attached to the windshied and then the mirror connects to that. I know this is a dumb question, but how does it attach? From what I can tell, it doesn't look like the mirror was ever glued on. Is it magnetic? Can anyone help me out as to how I can go about re-attaching it. Sorry if this is a rudimentary question. Thanks for taking the time to read.

You need a special adhesive that is sold at most auto parts stores. Here is one brand http://www.permatex.com/auto/autogr....&item_no=03325

I have also seen a kit that include sand paper and a razor to remove the old adhesive.

This is fairly common after 10 years of the sun beating on the windshield.
