single cam KA not running right

89 coupe, single cam KA.

it won't stay running, it starts, fires twice and dies.. like it's starving for fuel

if i pump it when i crank it will start and run smoothly up and down as long as i keep moving the pedal, if i stop moving the pedal it will die (doesn't matter if it's WOT, 1/4, 1/2) if i take my foot off the gas it just dies.

but when it's running it's smooth on all four cyl so i believe it's not a spark or compression problem.. any ideas?

Post single cam KA not running right

donno how long ago you posted this , but unstable idle/stalling can be caused also by vacuum leakage or you idle air control malfunction

idle air control is a "step by step" motor that regulates hom much air is let into the intake manifold when throttle is closed ... thus if its stuck closed , then your engine gets no air when ur not pressing the gaz pedal.

Hope this helps a little , ill be looking back at this if you need any help

Re: single cam KA not running right

Yeah, this is just a little dated....BUT its happening SO much lately...idle problems with the KA.

This may be temporary relief...but turn the little screw next to(to the right of) the throttle body a little and open the plate up a hair, its on the thing that the throttle cables are on. Its what I did, I wouldnt suggest it, but Im only keeping it for another couple of months, so what do i care?

Re: single cam KA not running right

yeah , works for a short term fix , but the iac (idle air control) is one of the thing that is of most concern for this specific problem (that and vacuum leakage)
