2000 Trooper Surges / Stumbles
Hello all,
I have a strange problem with my Trooper. First some background: 2000 Trooper 95K miles Two wheel drive Mine has the oil consumption issue but I just live with it. Here is the problem, intermittently typically during low RPM high gear (lugging) the car feels like its stumbles (rpm surges slightly). It may happen as little as once a day or a lot. It almost feels like something is bumping it from behind. I have tried to isolate it to time/temp/weather but there is no consistency. At cruise its fine. At first I thought it was the transmission slipping/shifting but now I’m leaning toward the engine. Here’s the thing – no CEL or Transmission light. Otherwise it runs great and gets 20 MPG on the highway. Any ideas? |

Re: 2000 Trooper Surges / Stumbles
Have you ever had the intake manifold gasket changed out?
see the FAQ's for more details. if that is the problem and you are the orginal owner Isuzu will replace it for free.

No doubt. Sure sounds like the IMG. Try a search for "intake manifold gasket" or "IMG". You are probably due for a good EGR system cleaning on your 2000 as well. EGR typically kicks on hard @ low RPM hywy speeds. Check Ryan's FAQ's for IMG and EGR.
G/luck Joel

Guys thanks for the info.
I have never had the gasket replaced and I am the second owner so no warranty. Is there a way to verify the gasket is leaking -- visual or otherwise? I try and keep the EGR tube clean thru the mouth of the throttle body and from up top on when removing the EGR. Although I don't know how good of a job I'm doing! Thanks in advance. |
