runs hot,idle dosen`t kick down,tranny

hello i have a 1994 buick century with a 3.1, the car temp gets hot and then the idle won`t kick down,also the car won`t shift into higher gear around 40 mph.so i shut it off for a hour and then everything ok .then it`ll act up again,i replaced the thermostat and lubed up the throttle linkage. any ideas please.

These cars trannys are electrical. I would check the grounds. I have a 97 Lesable which had a bad ground by the battery on the fender well. It was causing all sorts of malfunctions to the point of stalling. With the age of your car I would look for something like this. Is your cooling fan running?

hello do you think it`s a sensor or is the head gasket golng, what get`s me is that the throttle doesn`t kick down until you let the car cool down

cleaned throttle body, but still overheats
