Do you think NASCAR has sold itself to far too many sponsors?
I wanted to get everyone's opinion on this because this upcoming weekend's affairs at the fame Indianapolis Motor Speedway is not being called the Brickyard 400, like it used to be called. Now, it's the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard. What do you all think? Do you think that NASCAR is becoming way to sponsor friendly selling itself for money or what? Personally, I think they have. Batman Begins 400. Pepsi 400 (twice a year in Daytona and Michigan). Subway 500 & Subway Fresh 400. UAW-GM Quality 500. UAW-DaimlerChrysler 400. I could go on. It sickens me to think that NASCAR has once again started branching off from it roots.

You can throw too much money into ANYTHING and ruin it (which is the main problem in all professional sports these days). Just my 1½ cents worth.

Re: Do you think NASCAR has sold itself to far too many sponsors?
Why didn't they just call it the Allstate Brickyard 400 or the Brickyard 400 presented by allstate.Sorta like what they did with the southern 500 (when it was still a race).

Re: Do you think NASCAR has sold itself to far too many sponsors?
Its getting to be the same in all sports, the Tostitos Bowl, The Weedeater Bowl, etc in football. I agree that its gone over the edge. Its a catch 22 for the sports, they need to generate the income to continue to pay the outrageous salaries and prizes, but at the same time, keep ticket prices reasonable for the fans. I don't have a real solution, just my humble .02

Re: Do you think NASCAR has sold itself to far too many sponsors?
When I first realized Combos was advertising itself as the Official Cheese Filled Snack of NASCAR is when I first thought it had gone too far.
It's not quite as absurd as "Bridgestone Presents the ChampCar World Series Powered by Ford", but it's close.

Why nebody would want to watch champ car is beyond me but that is besideds the point. As for the combos thing there are alot of things like that. Ford is the offical truck of nascar, old spice is the offiacal deoderent, there are bunch more i can't think of right now.

Re: Do you think NASCAR has sold itself to far too many sponsors?
Agreed, but here's why I think Combos Being the official cheese filled snack of NASCAR is the most absurd. Quickly do the following:
Name another nationally known truck other than Ford. Name another nationally known soft drink other than Coke. Name another nationally known beer other then Busch. Name another nationally known deodorant other than Old Spice. Name another nationally known cheese filled snack other then Combos. Which one took the longest to come up with?

Re: Do you think NASCAR has sold itself to far too many sponsors?
Nascar is on a path to its demise because everything about it has gotten to showy. they care more about bringing in new fans than keeping the ones they have. All the sponors is just the tip of the iceberg. That physco prerace show. The commercials every other lap. I just want the racing not all the hollywood crap.

Re: Do you think NASCAR has sold itself to far too many sponsors?
i agree, i know a life long nascar fan that has just recently become a lot less interested. some of that might have to do with earnhart dying but he was still a huge fan the next couple years. this pre race show stuff is crap. and all the damn comercials...

Re: Do you think NASCAR has sold itself to far too many sponsors?
I'm a life long NASCAR fan and I like and dislike some of the things NASCAR has done in recent years. I like the fact that there are many more competitive cars then there were 10 years ago, I also like the new coverage as opposed to the old, the broadcasters are better, the coverage is better, the quality of the broadcast as a whole is better. I too dislike the number of commercials but I'll take it in exchange for the improved coverage. I also dislike the fact that no longer race at Rockingham, I've been to several races there and it was always an exciting race, I hate the fact that moved the Southern 500 from labor day weekend, that was a tradition that shouldn't have been changed IMO. I understand that it is a business and I see why they want to appeal to many more people and I'm fine with that, all in all I like the direction is headed in with the car of tomorrow and the amount of focus put on safety, I think it will be a while before NASCAR takes a dive, if it even does. with that said I do have one suggestion for NASCAR, take away one of Pocono dates, the racing there is boring and it's unnessecary to have two races at the same place that close together. Take one of the Pocono dates, move the 2nd California race to that date, put the Southern 500 back to Labor Day weekend, and give the drivers another week off.

Re: Do you think NASCAR has sold itself to far too many sponsors?
how about this one for now for what was the MBNA 400?
"Neighborhood Excellence 400 presented by Bank of America" And last years, Batman Begins and Spongebob whatever ones. Been a fan since I first saw NASCAR back in the '80s. I like how it has grown, but in some aspects it's getting flat out silly, not only the sponsers but seeing the NASCAR brand on everything from food to cologne. On a lighter note, I'm really surprised they haven't turned Busch beer into NASCAR beer yet
