restoring 1990 bronco

Sup everyone,

I just got a 1990 Eddie Bauer Bronco, V8, 5.0 Liter, Automatic.

Its interior and frame is near perfect condition but it doesnt run very well so I'm going to be doing the following to it:

Getting a new engine, transmission, and exhaust system.

I want this thing to be powerful, real powerful. So my question to you guys is what kind of engine, transmission, and exhaust system should I get? I think I want to get dual exhaust, but really whatever sounds and works the best. I do have a limited budget so I cant spend too much money on this.

I'm thinking im going to get a mustang motor for it, but I'm comin here to ask you guys cause im not really sure what would be best for what I want.

I'd go for a small block chevy 350 in it and up grade the transmission to a stronger metal to handle the tourque. A crate motor will run you about 5,000 to 10,000 depending on how complete the engine is as far as the parts are concerned. For a 5,000 dollar one, your lookin at an engine with all the internals installed and calibrated. You would need to buy the intake manifold, Carbuerator, Fan. Basically the neccesities to have the engine at least running. For the transmission, Your lookin at 2,000 to 8,000.

Oh one more thing, The crate motors are probably not topped with oil. As far as the exhaust system, I agree with the dual pipes, It will add about 10 more horsepower than if you were to use the originals.

If it was me, one option would be to rebuild the stock motor and add Motorsport components according the budget; intake, plenum spacer, larger throttle bodies, headers, heads, cam, aluminum drive shaft, chip, transmission upgrade, take off the AC compressor, etc...(get the 5.0 mustang magazine and browse). A second choice is to get a 5.8L Lightning motor new or used that has everything on it plus more cubic inches. Thats probably the route I'm going to take in the future.

I like the idea of keeping an OEM motor and computer in the truck and not ripping out all the electrical components, it will take less time with less hassle and the truck will have a higher resale value. I love these trucks...have had a 1985, 1996 and now a 1990. The older ones have been the best.

I just put a flowmaster exhaust for a f150 on my bronco, It made a difference in performance and it sounds great! I also bought motorsport headers. All together I spent $550 from summit.
