Engines

I have a 93 Honda Si Prelude, but having a little trouble trying to work out what a H22b engine is and a F22b?
I need to know if these engine are vtec or non vtec!
The thing with my car is there is two engine plates, one with the h22b and the other f22b!
But also there is nothing on the engine itself, it obviously had the top part of the engine swaped or new one has been placed!
It has a caborated engine symbols on the engine top, but it is Fuel
So pretty much trying to work out if it is Vtec or not!!!
Injected and you can tell the top of the engine has been changed!
If anyone can help plz let me know!!!!

The "si" is normally equipped with the 23h and is a double overhead cam. The vtec, also a double overhead cam, the vtec name is on the stock valve cover. The 22f is a single overhead cam engine and comes in the "s" model. You should be able to find pictures of some engines in some of these threads.

Re: Engines

Yeah, the 4th Gen Si came with a 160 hp. DOHC h23. The base model S came with a 135 hp f22. And the VTEC came with none other than the DOHC H22 VTEC. You can tell what engine (or at least what block) you have by looking at the identification right by the exhaust manifold.

Re: Engines

But the prob is that my car has two id plates on it and near where the exhaust manifold is one is H22b and the other is f22b the f22b is the plate obviously from when it was in Japan it has some japanese writing on it aswell and the other is the one that got put on when it arrived by the looks of things, but i'm not to sure!
me and a few of my friends that also have preludes are quite stumped, it has beaten all of them and theirs were dfinetly Vtec! its putting out to much power for what it should be!

Re: Engines

Umm I think you mean H22A not H22B It might be a H22A Block with a JDM F22B head? Not sure. Do you have any pics?

Re: Engines

I don't have any pics of it, but will take some and download them onto my computer!
It says H22B on the engine Verification Plate which is down by the manifold and then there is a 2nd one which is identical practically to the first apart from some japanese writing that say F22B!
Its got me i stumped lol
