'74... needing some help
ok, so i have this 74 SS hatch that i picked up for about $1500...... ran awesome, hasnt even rolled over 100k yet, and i got the original bill of sell from the chevy dealer, the owner was the original buyer of the car.
ok, so i pulled it up into my yard one day to was it, when i was done i went to start it up and nothing........ no power, nothing. my dad and myself have been messing w/ it for months now. checked everything we could think of: starter, wires, fuses, etc... so im stuck and dont kno what to do. only mods to the car are cam, carb jets have been bored out, exhaust(wayyyyyy out of date tho), and had AC Delco electronic ignition put in after the car was purchased. small block 350- original, is the engine im working with. any help would be much appreciated. thanks |

Re: '74... needing some help
Check the "fusable link" that goes to the starter. It looks like a connector inline with the wire. I had that problem once with a Malibu. It just died with no warning. If that's not the problem, I can't help. Bad news is you probably got a short somewhere & the water found it when you washed it.

Yes check the fusible link.Their should be one coming off the battery that goes to a junction on the rad support beside the battery. check that maybe where it bolts came loose. I had this happen to my Nova before. All of a sudden you'd have no power to anything. After a quick check, all it was was a loose bolt for that fusible link.

Re: '74... needing some help
Hey 529, You seem very through, did you try by- passing the ignition switch?
or battery cable, may be the previous owner added a secret switch? Let us know what you found O.K. ?

Re: Re: '74... needing some help
already tried that. think i have found the issue. the group of wires that run from the fuse box at the firewall are giving me bad readings from the tester, gonna replace those and go from there.
Thanks for all the input guys. |
