Quick fix for blower motor fan squealing?
Hi all,
The blower motor fan in my 91 V6 Cutlass Cierra is making horrible squealing sounds - I'm guessing its the impeller fan rubbing against the chassis. I'm not sure that just replacing the fan would fix the problem - its supposed to be a snug fit. It could be the chassis has warped and is really the problem. Is there any way to tell? - I'd prefer not to replace everything. Also, I'll have to remove the power steering pump to get the fan out. Any advice on that? or things to be careful about? thanks! m |

Re: Quick fix for blower motor fan squealing?
Actually the problem is with the bearing in the fan going bad not rubbing on the housing. It is a common problem and replacing the fan would be the easiest way to cure the problem. I don't have any suggestions on the power steering pump removal.

Re: Quick fix for blower motor fan squealing?
yep, you're right - it was the bearings.
I just replaced it this morning. The power steering pump was easy - just three bolts holding it. I was able to push it to the side without having to drain the fluid. To do this, I had to pull the blower motor partially out and rotate it to make room for the pump to clear the chassis. Then with the pump out of the way, the blower motor slips right out. $30 later for a new blower motor/fan and I'm back in business! thanks |
