94 Transport Will not start
I have a 94 Pontiac Transport 3.1 that wil not start. I have changed the fuel pump twice, as well as the fuel filter. It will crank up but will not fire, if I spray starter fluid into the carb. it will start up until it burns off. Any suggestions.

Re: 94 Transport Will not start
Have you checked for DTCs (diagnostic trouble codes)?

Re: 94 Transport Will not start
No, I have not. I was told the paperclip trick would not work for this particular vehicle.

Re: 94 Transport Will not start
I checked the codes the only code that came up was 34 (MAP) I replaced the MAP sensor, still will not start. I can not hear the Fuel Pump charge, so I replaced it again it, but still will not start. It seems there may not be power getting to the Fuel pump.

Re: 94 Transport Will not start
Check for fuel pressure at the fuel rail. Depress the shrader fitting and if fuel sprays out then your fuel pump is working. If there is no fuel pressure then look for the fuel pump relay. It could have gone bad and is preventing power from going to the fuel pump. Not sure where it is on a 94.

Re: 94 Transport Will not start
I would check the connections to the fuel pump to make sure everything is connected properly. Also check the fuel pump fuse. Before you do anything check for fuel pressure at the fuel rail if none is there then the fuel pump is your next place to check. However, if you don't hear it then it is obviously not working.

Re: 94 Transport Will not start
Fuse is okay, no fuel pressure, everything at the fuel pump seems to be okay. Maybe should have mentioned the car was running perfect, but then it just completely died while driving up the road, at has not started since.

did you check to see if you can hear the fuel pump operating in the tank when you turn the ignition on?? you can get someone to open the fuel tank and put there ear to the filler pipe and when you turn on the ignition they should hear it come on memntarily till fuel pressure is achieved then go to shradder valve and let some fuel out and see if pump kicks on again. If all this is working get an amp meter and see if there is juice at the injectors while cranking engine over,,If not I would say the crank sensor is bad,,this is what tells the engine to throw spark and fuel at certain times when engine turns over.

Re: 94 Transport Will not start
If you can't hear the pump running and there is no fuel pressure then the pump is your problem. I would say that either you have a loose wire or the pump itself is bad. Even if it is a new one there is something wrong with the pump.

Re: 94 Transport Will not start
I will check again, it is my third pump. Now I was also told if there is not enough OIL pressure, the fuel pump will not kick on is this correct?

Re: 94 Transport Will not start
Another question I was looking at the wiring diagram that I have, it shows a orange, red, black, dark green, and gray. Is that true? My relays only seem to have four wires, and none of them have that color set up.

Re: 94 Transport Will not start
And Another question, does this vehicle have a ESS? And where is the oile pressure sender/fuel pump switch located? Could either of these culprits be the cause of my problem?
