replacing upper dashboard cover
How difficult is it to replace the upper dash board in a 01 ram 1500? It looks to me like it can be done without removing the entire dash, but others are telling me its a tough job. My current dash has a crack in it. Anybody done this? Thanks guys

Yeah it's not that easy. Just remember that there are a few nuts/bolts in the fire wall inside the engine compartment that must be removed.

replacing upper dash board
I recently installed a molded dash board cover over the cracked dash in my 2001 Dodge ram 2500. I didn't want to go through the hassle of removing the dash. I purchased it off of Ebay and it took me about 45 minutes to install and looks great. If you didn't know it was a overlay you couldn't tell it. If you are interested in checking into one of these let me know and I will send you the email address of the seller on Ebay to see if he has another. Reply back to this post. This is serious problem for Dodge trucks. I even emailed Dodge to see if they had a recall for this problem and naturaly they didn't know it was a problem and didn't have a recall, but I know a great many Dodge Ram owners that has had the same problem.

I wonder if this is a problem on the 01's. I have a 96 the dash looks the same as the day I drove it off the lot. I have never had a dash cover on it (I think they look cheap) and just lately I have been using a windshield cover to keep the inside cooler in this 100+ weather.

replacing upper dah board cover
Turbo,
I know some Dodge owners with 97 -2001 with the problem. The cover I bought don't look cheap, it actually looks just like the original dash. It's made out of the same plastic and is adhered to the cracked dash. If you will search in this forum you will find other post about this problem. blast71334 |

I didn't mean the cover you got looks cheap, I mean the carpet dash covers look cheap. I have seen the one you are talking about and yes they do look like OEM.

Hell I don't know how to post pictures either. I have seen the carpet cover is all different styles and I just like the look of the stock dash board. I mean there's nothing wrong with carpet, but I just rather not use it. If my dash ever cracks I'll get a new one or the plastic cover.

Re: replacing upper dashboard cover
Have the same problem!! 2001 Dodge Ram Quad Cab. Got in the other day and noticed a crack from the windshield straight back on the driver's side. The molded plastic bezel that surrounds the instrument panel was also cracked. Every day I spot a new crack, now pieces are actually starting to come off. This could be a safety issue. I think Dodge should address.

Re: replacing upper dashboard cover
I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9 Cummings and my dash fell completely to pieces. I installed a dash cover cap from TXDashcovers and you cannot tell it has a cap. It looks very good. It only took me about 25 minutes to install.
I was told at the dealer that it would take over 8 hours in labor to replace dashboard and that I might have the same issue again, due to the fact that the cover is made of the same oem material as the original dashboard My truck is a great truck, It's just the plastic inside does not hold up |
