Unhappy S-10 transmission

I bought an S-10 eighteen months ago, since then I have had the transmission hose blow twice. Is there something wrong with GM hoses or with the S-10 transmission? Anybody have a suggestion?

Re: S-10 transmission

I didn't even know the trans had a rubber hose that could blow out. I know I have (AT) two steel/aluminum hoses that run up to my radiator for cooling.

May want to post a pic of these blown hoses. Sounds like they could be rubbing on something or maybe too much heat near by to make them have a soft spot. Unless it has an outragous amount of pressure running through them hoses don't normally blow that quickly with out another cause (heat/rub).

If it is heat or rubbing, put some of that hard plastic stuff around the hoses (Looming i think it's called). And wrap it in some aluminum tape like they'd use for A/C ducts/lines. Or could buy you some of that new exhaust wrap stuff they got out.

Re: S-10 transmission

The rubber hoses will be going to an additional oil cooler, used with trailers and when people drive in a little more extream of an area.
Try blowing out the oil cooler, and only use transmission hose not fuel hose.

I was thinking of OEM cause he said GM hoses, and I've never know the S-10's to come with and Additonal trans oil cooler.

Re: S-10 transmission

I believe that any truck that has an auto with a dealer or factory installed trailer towing package has a additional oil cooler, but I might be wrong.

They are added on by a lot of people. My Blazer had one without having towed anything in it's life until I bought it. Probably because the former owner has the driveway from hell. 5 miles long, and a rough steep climb all the way

Re: S-10 transmission

Hell I didn't even think S-10's came with a tow package. Seem too under powered and the stock bumpers only go 2k load 200 tounge.
Yea I've got an aftermarket trans cooler that I installed, but i've never in 3 years had a hose burst. And down here in South Tx it gets hot. Still waiting to hear from clhlrar for more info/possable fix?

Actually the tow package consists of a class 3 hitch, steering stabilizer and the trans cooler from the factory. Hell I towed a 7000 pound truck on a 1000 pound trailer without issue..
