i have a 97 trans am that the shifter is sticking in park. the only way to get it out is to take the console apart and manually move the lock down. my question is this, is this common? is there an easy fix? i read another post on here, but on that they told the guy to set the brake before parking on slopes. i live in kansas so there are no slopes. the bracket for the lock just isn't moving down far enough to disengage it. help!!!!

ya this is very common in what happened to mine was there as spring in side with this plastic thing I forgot what it was called but I broke so I had to replace that haven had a problem since to take it off there should be a pin on the front of the knob pop it out and it will come off

Re: shifter sticking
alright, i looked at it. it all came apart real easy just like you said. the plastic rod that goes from the handle down to that lock bracket, has about 2 to 3 mm broke off of the top of it, so it's not pushing that lever down far enough. guess i will have to buy a new one. thanks for your help!
