2006 body style

Anyone know if Chevy is changing the 2006 Silverado body style?

Re: 2006 body style

Just drove a 2006 Z71 today. Only differences I noticed were:

1. Has the front end from the 2005 HD trucks, as published.
2. Gear selection indicator is cheapened up, instead of a digital display, there is a PRND321 row of letters with lights below.

The next Silverado body style is due out in late 2007 as a 2008 model, I hear.

2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Large Truck
Available: December 2006

What Edmunds.com Says: With GM quickly falling behind its competitors in the full-size truck segment, look for GM to pull out all the stops to assure that this Silverado has everything it needs to compete.

What We Know: Major changes will be necessary on this stalwart design in order to keep it competitive against its longtime rival, the F-150, in addition to relative newcomers such as the Nissan Titan and next-generation Toyota Tundra. When the new Silverado appears, probably in 2007, it will feature a far more elegant cabin than the current model along with a new GMT-900 platform. A more powerful range of engines is a certainty, but efficiency is also likely to play a major role as the Silverado may very well become the biggest user of GM's Displacement on Demand technology. Look for safety to play a prominent role as well with more extensive airbag protection and wider availability of StabiliTrak.

I hope they don't make their half ton another friggin' giant truck like the ram, f-150, and titan. Those trucks sit up too high and are just generally too large for their half ton status. Unfortunately, I have a feeling GM will follow this ridiculous trend.

If they left the 2wd's alone and made the z71's and 4x4's higher, i would be VERY pleased with that.

I agree, what is the point of having a 1/2 ton work truck if the walls of the bed are too damn high to get anything in their(f-150).

I don't think it's so much the suspension set up as it is that the other manufacturers are making the bodies so much taller. I'd bet if you get a measure from rocker panel to roof on another manufacturer's truck that it is much taller there than a Silverado. I hate Toyota, but they are the only ones who are making a half ton of proper dimensions (REALLY close to the same size as the silverado).

That was one of the issues I spent a lot of time measuring and checking last summer when I was buying a new truck. Dodge 1/2 ton trucks are ridiculously tall and F-150s are a little better but not great - but to reach in the bed over the rail on an F-150 - not pretty. My actual floor height - even with my 20 inch tires/wheels sits lower than the Titan, Dodge, or F-150 2wds by a fair amount - and then there are the 4 x 4 heights which are still higher yet. Funny thing - actual ground clearance is better with my truck - than it is with most others 4 x 4s even though mine sits lower. That is also better for handling and cornering too.

Re: 2006 body style

I agree with the tall body panels, that is rediculous. But since 99 Chevy has made all the trucks the same height. I personally think the 4x4's should sit a bit higher than the 2wd's. when I bought mine I was dissapointed b/c if how much lower it sat than my old 89 F-150. Sure it rides better, but if you buy a 4x4 you shouldnt be looking to have a cadillac ride.

Re: 2006 body style

I hope the HD's come taller than all the other 3/4 tons out there. The next 5.3L is rumored to have 350+HP as a base. The duramax diesels will bee avalable in all the trucks the Duramaxs' in the 2500 on up will be a monster with 400+HP and 700+TQ

Re: 2006 body style

I still think they need to offer a diesel in a 1/2 ton again...

Raise the 1500 at least as high as the 2500. They need to curve the shape of the headlight less or redesign it entirely. Locking tailgate. Larger speedometer face.

Why would you want that? That doesn't make any kind of sense. Those of us who use our trucks for work do not want a 1500 to be as tall as a 2500, and for good reason. Those of us with kids do not want a 1500 to be as tall as a 2500, and for good reason. Yours is exactly the mentality that got Ford and Dodge where they are. You want something as tall as a 2500, buy a 2500 or go get a dodge or a ford

Re: 2006 body style

Well, let me clarify that I do think the 1500 Z71 Off Road Silverado would be nice if it were raised some
