289 to 351W swap

I have a '67 coupe with a 289 and am thinking about swapping the engine for a 351W. I was wondering if anybody has done this conversion and if so how easy is it. I have heard that the headers may run into the shock towers.

Drop me a line if you have any suggestions.

Thanks

That is a common misconseption. The stock exhaust manifolds do tend to hit the shock towers on onlder cars like that because over the years the shock towers have sagged inwards. I think in my '66 mustang coupe It was supposed to have something like 43 3/4" between the shock towers (something you may want to look into to make sure your towers havent sagged). If they have sagged inward you can fix them with a portapower. Also there are several companies mac, hooker, ect ect that make headers special for this swap. Good luck.

Actually I just got done with this swap. I also have the 67 mustang coupe, that had the 289 in it. I put a 302 and it wasn't enough. It was about two weeks ago I finally got the 351 in and running. It was a very easy swap, but because I have a c-4 I am worried the tranny might be going out soon. So far so good though, but yes the swap was very easy.

there is an aftermarket shock tower support that is available for your mustang and should be installed going to heavier engines as the factory engines and age made the towers sway in ,,the imposition of more weight will certainly make them sway in for sure this is a TEN MINUTE BOLT IN AND WILL KEEP EVERYTHING IN PLACE.

Yes very important I forgot to tell you about that. It wasn't a big deal on mine because I have a mustang too suspension, but it was still better to have then nothing. thanks for adding that Jim Adams
