hot wire Dyna ride air compressor?

I have a 92 PA Ultra. The compressor on the Dyna Ride doesn't run anymore. The back end is still up, but sags with a heavy load, so I assume I have no leaks. About 6 months before it stopped I had to replace the fuse for it. It worked fine for a few months, then stopped working though the fuse is still OK. An ill omen?

I've read very useful info on the parts of the system and what can fail in this forum. Very useful info, Thanks.

Can I "hot wire" the compressor to run when I need it?

I was going to run 2 wires from the battery (with a 20 amp fuse in it) to the 2 wire connector on the compressor. Are those 2 wires hot and ground? or is the compressor grounded elsewhere and the second wire is something else, like to release air from the system.

Can anyone point me to a wiring diagram anyplace?

Thanks in advance.

Re: hot wire Dyna ride air compressor?

My guess is you have a bad ELC relay (I believe mine's bad too) because the fuse is good as you said, but the pump no longer comes on. It used to always switch on and not turn off, so I had to disconnect the compressor's wiring harness. Take the relay out and have it tested before going through the trouble of hotwiring. 12 bucks for a new relay might be all you need.

Re: hot wire Dyna ride air compressor?

The relay is located in the relay center under the passenger side dash. If it is not the relay, I would suspect the compressor; they are prone to burn up when they run for extended periods. Why it would not blow the fuse, I would think that the motor may still be ok; however, the compressor has a broken shaft. Just a guess!
Check the two wires going to the motor with a DVM and see if you have power to one of them. I assume one is power and the other ground; you just need to find the hot wire and run a jumper to it if you want to jump it. Keep in mind, the ground is already there.

One other thing, in order to get 12V power to the hot wire at the compressor, you will need to disconnect the lever on the rear level control switch and wire it in the up position. That should make the switch. If you don't get power from the switch to the compressor, it could be the switch is bad.
