Child Anchors (Latch)

I have a 2000, didn't come with the anchor system...I believe 2001+ models all came equipped with them. For anyone who has used the anchor systems, you know how much easier (and maybe safer) they are...especially if you are always moving a car seat from one vehicle to another. My question is if its possible to get the anchor system installed after the fact. Can this be done from the dealer? Has anybody had this done?

Thanks guys!

Are you talking about the tether strap, on the top back of the car seat? If so, do you have any cargo tie downs? My 94 Jimmy has a tie down in the way back by the tailgate. Not sure if it's for cargo or for the spare tire, my spare is on the tailgate. But that is what I used. My 02 Blazer has four or five of them. I'm sure I have heard that the dealer can install them. To me even if it only makes the safe a little bit more safe, it's well worth it. It doesn’t make the seat any easier to install, in fact it adds a step.

Re: Child Anchors (Latch)

I think he's talking about the latch system that takes the place of the seat belt.

Make sure you post back here, if you find the answer somewhere else. I would like to know. I'm currently using Britax Marathon carseats (suppose to be the best you can buy, I hope so for $250 each) They are set up to use latch and I would like to upgrade my 98 if I can. Right now I'm using the normal seat belts with the upper tether hooked to the roll bar. They are extremely stable but the latch would be better.

Perhaps he's talking about the two metal clamps coming out where the seat back and the seat cushion come together. My '04 Chrysler has them, you just slide the infant seat (or booster) under the clamps, and hold the kids in with the seat belt, much like an adult, but only in the rear seats, these items are never in the front because of the air bags. (Federal mandate in the States, 2001, most likely the same North of the Border)

Re: Child Anchors (Latch)

My 02 Blazer has an extra cargo tie down in the cargo area behind the middle of the rear seat. The car seat has an adjustable strap with a snap clip coming from behind the car seat headrest. The bottom of the car seat gets attached to the rear seat with the center seat lap belt. Also remember, seat belts are a safety item and there may be liability issues with any modifications in the event of an accident.

You are talking about the tether strap. The latch system connects the child's car seat to the vehicle seat without using the lap belt. They are metal clips that stick out of the vehicle seat and the child's car seat has latches that hook to them.

Actually all you have to do is go to a junk yard and pull one from a late model wreck. It's held in by 2 18mm nuts... Simply remove the nuts and lift up..

Blazee - Thats exactly what I mean. I took a drive to the dealer, they said that can install it....get this, for free. They call it a courtesy item. They have to order it in from Michigan, so it will take a couple of weeks. You should give your dealer a call.
