Truck Quits

My 2000 F-150 Supercab 4.6L is really starting to worry me. It has been hesitating a little lately, but only sometimes. Now, it completely quits on me. No warning, just quits. It's done it 2 times on me in the past 2 1/2 days. The first time I was traveling down hill about 5 mph with my foot on the brake. Today it quit on me as I was pulling into my driveway (turning right, relatively flat, pressing brake to slow down) and that's a real problem because I have to go around a hill to get to my driveway and people coming up behind me can't see me until it's too late and if I'm broke down in the middle of the road there's no way they will be able to stop. I'm not getting any Service Engine Soon light and every other time the truck runs fine. What could be the problem?

Re: Truck Quits

Ok, I installed a new fuel filter today. I released the pressure on the fuel rail and it seems to have a lot of pressure (I don't have a pressure tester). I will probably drive the truck around tomorrow to see if that has helped anything. Anything else it could be? I don't think it's the fuel pump because I had a fuel pump go out on my Dodge and it acted completely different. I figure if the pump goes out, it will probably do similiar things as the Dodge did (spit, sputter, die, ect.).

Re: Truck Quits

Well, even though I'm not getting any responses, I'll post anyway. The fuel filter didn't help, it quit on me again today. Seems like it's becoming more and more frequent. It's also beginning to become hard to start. Wants to crank a couple times and seems to be struggling slightly when I start it up. I've really got to get this thing fixed because I'm leaving home for college soon and I don't exactly have a garage at my dorm room.

Re: Truck Quits

Not sure. Fairly sure it's not the battery. Doesn't have problems cranking. Took it to my mechanic today to check for codes. No codes. Cleaned IAC today, but already seems like the RPMs are fluctuating a little too much. So I guess I'm going to buy a new fuel pump and IAC and see how that does.

Re: Truck Quits

It sounds like the (IAC) Idle Air Control solenoid is sticking. I'd jsut replace it, it is a commpn issue.

Re: Truck Quits

Would the IAC look very dirty if it were going bad? It didn't look too bad when I cleaned it, but I went ahead and did it anyway. Still change it?

It is alot eaiser to change the IAC than the fule pump i wolud try that first. If that does not fix the problem then you can always take it back.

Re: Truck Quits

Well, usually they won't take a part back if it's already been installed (but how would they know, right?). I guess I could go ahead and buy one. The only place that has one is about 20 miles away. I don't know though. I cleaned it yesterday and so far it's doing pretty good. Hasn't quit yet.
