Re: Moonshine

my friend tried to made a very small amount once, just for giggles... it tasted like ass and it wasnt worth the money spent to make it unless you make a lot of it all the time.

Re: Moonshine

It essentially tastes like pure ammonia. And smells like it, too.

Or, imagine the worst Vodka you've ever tasted. Multiply that by 100. It's worse than that.

Re: Moonshine

Basically what you do is you take a bunch of crap (corn meal, yeast, malt, etc) toss it in a big can....let it sit and ferment, heat the crap up (not much) so it starts to vaporize, have a tube running from said big can running to another can...the vaporized goodness will go to the 2nd can, thats your moonshine. Afterwards (or I guess you could mix it in the mash) take the moonshine and pour it in a bucket with some chopped up fruit, whatever tickles your pickle, let it sit in there for at least a couple weeks to a month. Then strain out the solid crap, pour, and enjoy a good tasting glass of moonshine, sure its probably not something youd want to sip on all night but if you let it sit in with the fruit it will calm down the harshness of the moonshine.

As far as the taste, it all depends on the maker and if they have a good still set up and know the right time and temps. I have had some horrid moonshine but I have also had some of the smoothest sweetest moonshine in the world, just depends on who makes it.
