Differential Cover Choice - help me decide
Still haven't decided on a differential cover for my gears that I'm getting. I want to save a little money and just get the AAM aluminum cover but then again I'd like to get a cover that has the preload bearing bolts on them. Kinda like the G2 aluminum girdle LM Performance sells or the Thunder Racing girdle that Fast Toys sells.
So I can't make up my mind. Does anyone know from experience if they might be both as durable and cause less flex to the rearend or should I just not save the money and get the one with the preload bearing bolts? I'd really like to save the cash so I can get subframe connectors.

Most all the aluminum girdles are going to perform very closely as far as strength goes. I suggest the "T/A" brand girdle as it has the Pinion bearing cap bolts to help keep the pinion from walking on a hard launch. If you're still on the 7.5" 10 bolt, making any kind of power, leaving hard on sticky tires, there's not much that's going to help. Just a matter of time before you'll be upgrading to a 12 bolt/9".
Been there.... done that.... a bunch.

Hmmm...Ya, I really wanted to go with the 12 bolt because I have a feeling I'll be doing this quiet often.
I just don't have the 2k to put on one right now. *sigh* Here is a good question to follow up though, if I'm looking forward to doing this often, whenever I hear that noise in the rear, do I need to change out the differential all the time. Like get a new one everytime? Or can I just get an install kit and fix the problem? This time I'm just buying everything at once and putting in some different gears, don't ask me why the 3.42s aren't in there to begin with. It's a Trans Am. I even checked the codes on the door and it says it's got the 2's. But back to the question, should I have to replace the differential everytime?

Depending on how much power you're making.... how hard you're leaving... and on what tire yer doing it on will determine whether you scatter the carrier.... more than likely the ring gear will let go before any damage is done to the carrier.....
...... yeah.... you "can" rebuild over and over.... but why? Get a 12 bolt or 9".... leave off the limiter on real tires and don't lift till you see the face of God
