Did a complete tune up it runs good but dosent want to shut down it Diesels a little, I set the timing and lowered the Idle speed but it still wants to diesel a little, the car has been sitting and we bought it for a project and I dont know if I may still have some bad gas in it or not, I ran it almost empty. Its a 87 Z 5.0 carb

Re: 87 wont shut off
Youre sure the firing order is correct and when you set the timing, you disconnected the advance wire?

Re: 87 wont shut off
usually two things are going to cause this, either a the timing is out of whack of b the carb is out of whack from my experience.

Re: 87 wont shut off
Preliminary point would be to check the idle speed and for any vacuum leaks.
But, let's back up a sec. Did the problem exsist before you 'tuned' it up? What did this "complete tune up" consist of? I think retracing your steps will solve the problem if it didn't exsist beofre. The quadjet (e4mc) carb is not very tolerant to the inexperienced, no offense. Just stating, I don't think the carb is your problem at this point, I believe it's the ignition system.. |

The computer controlled carbs had/have a "fuel shut off switch" in/on them that is supposed to shut the fuel off when you turn the key off, to prevent running on.
