Sparkplugs, how often do you change yours?
While I own a 91 civic dx stock. I just got done changing my spark plugs. And I had a couple of questions maybe you guys can answer for me.
First off I use ngk's, they seem to be fine but I've been changing them around between 2000-3000 miles I Believe. I can tell in the car's idle response that its time to change them. At a stop light my sounds like its running pretty hot. Then when I go to change them. I notice the difference in the idle noise, it drops. Is that normal mileage to be changing spark plugs?. Also while I was checking out the dist. cap I notice on top where the spark plugs wires connect to it. One of the ends was corroded. I was wondering if there's any good links to some good sets of spark plug wires for my car. Also has anyone out there, ever hook up one of those msd ignition kit. I was thinking about putting one in. I thought maybe it would help out my idle and throttle response. Thanks a lot for reading my post. I'd appreciate any input pe@ce Rich |

Re: Sparkplugs, how often do you change yours?
You change your sparkplugs every 2000-3000 miles? Most sparkplugs can last at least 30,000 miles.
As long as you are running the correct heat range sparkplug you should be ok. If you just gonna drive the car as is you really don't need anything fancy. The stock ignition is very good. Just a new oem cap, oem rotor, and oem wires. If you modify an engine (ie nitros, turbo etc) then your need for a high performance ignition will increase. GL |

Re: Re: Sparkplugs, how often do you change yours?
![]() Thats way to often for spark plug replacement unless your engine is junk. Stock Honda ignition system have been tested & proven to support 250HP. MSD ignition is simple to hook-up, it does come with that wonderful thing called instruction. Here's a link anyway - |

Re: Sparkplugs, how often do you change yours?
i check my plugs about every 1000 miles or so, sometimes more often. If they look worn, replace. if they look good, check the gap, regap if necessary, and replace.
If they look bad at all, i'd say replace them. NGK's are only like $1.10 a piece. I also recommend an engine tune up. distributor cap, ignition rotor, spark plug wires, air filter, oil & filter change, check/set ignition timing. |

Eventually the threads will strip out if your removing plugs that often. It's not a nitro funny car . . .
