Completed: 1/16 Revell Ferrari 512BB Boxer Berlinetta. Huge dissapointment.
Well I just finished my Ferrari... third model i've airbrushed, and the first I've polished and actually got a halfway decent paint job. Model Masters Italian Red enamel, no clearcoat (probably bad idea). The fitment of the model was the best I've seen yet (although thats comparing it to all revell models - only tamiya model I have is in the very beginning stage of painting). Unfortunately, it started spiraling out of control when I started putting in the windows... The windshield didn't fit the body properly, and the side windows showed how deformed the doors are. The hood, engine cover, and doors look fine when they are open, but as soon as they are closed nothing really fits right. Its a big dissapointment especially considering I started painting the engine and stuff probably close to two years ago even I haven't worked on it a whole lot...
Oh, in that second picture, the passenger's side door is shut and in the latched position. That's how deformed the model was. |

Bravo for sticking it out with a bad model. Yeah, you're right about the clear coat--it tends to even out orange peel and make a better surface to start with when you're ready to polish.

It does seem like its going to fall to pieces. The sad thing is, everything is secure. I'll probably try playing with it some more and see if I can get a better fitment without wrecking it further. It fit very well (aside from the doors) when I did the test fit too.
As for the engine, I didn't get very detailed, and I probably should've painted the engine bay satin or flat black rather than red, but it came out alright anyways. Didn't look at a reference picture once. :**edit** On the bright side, I could always intentionally really screw the thing up and make it a Ferrari restoration project
