Not to be a dick but if you can lose to a LS there is no way you can pull on a 1.8T. Face it, it doesnt take a brain surgeon to drive a tiptronic....but hell I could be wrong, you said that you got some good stuff fixed on your car (spark plugs, etc) you may, but I doubt it.

But hey what the hell do I know, go get 'em....for the TOFU CREW!!

well the thing is, my friend in the LS is a really good driver. he beat that LX 5 speed by 2 cars, and that LX 5 speed beat 4th gen maxima by 2 and a half cars. and this was when the LX driver wasn't even that good yet. i know it sounds confusing. but hey, the guy in the jetta just got his license so i still have a chance, and the 0-60 number on the jetta is 8 seconds with a 6 speed. but since his is an auto i can add 2 seconds to his time. well i'm goin to clean my fuel system and flush my engine then i'll race him, if hes willin to.

Well, the Jetta has the same engine in it as the Audi A4. And the same transmition. I have driven the Audi. They are very quick cars, though they tiptronic tranny can be sluggish. You will shift it and it will take a second to actually shift the gears. Now, this was in a 99', so they may have fixed that particular performance problem.

Good Luck :smoker2:

The smartest thing you can do now, and the best performance upgrade you can do; maintence!!! No lie, here what you should get/do

-New spark plugs & plug wires
-New engine oil and use a oil system cleaner
-trans fluid flush and replace
-rear diff fluid flush and replace
-New fuel filter
-Flush and fill radiator
-Bleed brakes w/new brake fluid
-New clutch master Cyl fluid
-Fuel system cleaner (injectors are the biggie)
-New air filter (just front the $$ and get a intake!)
-And if you have the $$ or you can do it yourself, replace the timing belt, if you have a timing chain (I dont know what is on the KA) make sure that it looks in good shape all the way around and there isnt too much slack, if it looks sad, replace it.

After doing all this stuff, your car will feel brand spakin' new; no lie!! And you will get some power, I guaruntee!!! Not only that you will save yourself a lot of bills down the road. I would do it before you next race!
Good luck!!

(by the way, do you have a LSD in there?)

NB8CT all that has been done, i've changed and refilled my radiator, changed my water pump, changed my fan clutch, changed my oil, changed my oil filter, changed my fuel filter, air filter, changed my spark plugs, changed my distributer rotor and cap, changed my rear brakes, and i just put some fuel systems flush in my car today on my refill. now i'm waitin for a few hundred more miles so i can put in a engine flush oil. with all that, i still lost to my friends LX 5 speed. but like i said, that LX was able to beat the V6 and the fourth gen maxima. and this was when he still wans't that good of a driver yet. and he beat me by two cars. but i think i can take on the jetta. and esp with my new mod comin in. my short throw shifter. that should take a fraction of a second off my time.

what kinda power you makin?
considering that vw should have 170 hp(at the motor) and it has a turbo. those things are pretty stout...

and comparing someone that beat that car to a car that you lost to etc is a waste of time... if the driver of a lambo sucks, i can beat it? ya dig?

jesus

screw the short throw shifter
that shifter is worth a few hundred dollars, why not get an intake? i guarantee that unless you're a 90 lbs weakling than the short throw shifter won't make a difference in your time
and you don't need a limited slip differential. if you don't have enough power to beat a 4 door sedan than you don't have to worry about traction problems for another 150 hp
get rid of the cat, put a bigger exhaust on it and a high flow muffler.
don't spend a thousand dollars on a ready made kit either, exhaust shops can do a custom exhaust job for under a couple hundred dollars, and that will be worth much more because your car would be better on gas too.
under drive crankshaft pulleys are a good idea and are in the same few hundred dollar range as the shifter. don't buy the whole kit, those are just for show, just buy the crankshaft pulley.
how about an after market computer? those are the same price as well...20 hp can be had just by throwing one of those in.
there are lots of things you can do for your money performance-wise, but don't whine about losing so many races if the only thing you do to your car is change the oil and put a little shifter on it

Actually for straight-line racing he's right... you don't need LSD for straight line racing... especially if your car isn't like 300 or more wheel hp.... But for drifting etc. you better get the LSD... and for safety too..

Don't bother getting rid of the cat, its been proven to give little to next to no horsepower/torque. So its just not worth the trouble.
