My F-150 had this problem. I found the coil was bad.

Just wanted to let you know that I too am looking for a fix for this..quite irritating when I have impatient horses in the trailer at the gas station and it won't start till it is 'cool' enough! My motivation that had me look for and join this interesting forum.

I've read all over the net this is because of a bad CTS (coolant temperature sensor). Careful though there's two of them, one that is used for your gauges and one that the computer uses. The one for the gauges has a single wire on it, the other one has multiple I believe. Not sure where they are on a 460, but facing the motor looking in the engine compartment on a 302 the CTS is on the passenger side. Make sure you teflon tape the threads on the new one when you put it in so it doesn't leak.

Re: F250 won't start after warmed up
To ru69....Sounds like a "heat soak" condition to me--when your truck is cool and you start it, the starter spins ok but when the truck is hot, the heat transfers in to the starter and swells the armature just enough to bind it up and the starter won't turn. Solution is to fabricate and install a heat shield over the starter between it and the block and exhaust system or wrap the starter in "header tape" which is a heat resistant tape used on headers...can be bought at most parts stores or performance shops. Quick fix is to pour cool water on the starter housing but not too much...use a funnel and hose to get past any restrictions. Good luck, Paul
