Cold Air Intake

I was wondering, whats the most HP you can add to a 2005 GT-S Auto. celica from a cold air intake system under $300? And about how much faster would it go?

Re: Cold Air Intake

id say probably 5 hp. maybe like 8-10 at the most. the price of the intake dont matter as long as you have a good filter (k&n is the best) and an unrestrictive pipe that leads to cold air. dont spend alot on one just make sure the filter is good. i would never spend 300 on one thats crazy.

Re: Cold Air Intake

You could get 5 hp, 8-10 is possible if you had some sort of ram air system, like where you have a vent that forces air into the filter or you route it to the grill. More than speed you are gonna notice better low rpm power and a more smooth acceleration. I personally have found that short ram really isn't that much different from CAI and costs a lot less, I am going with an Injen Short Ram intake for my 91 GT with a 3" cold ram air system routed from the grill. I'll post pics when I am finished

You won't gain much power at all.. especially on an auto GT-S. All the intakes available for the 7th gen celica cause check engine lights and bogging. The reason is the MAFS (Mass Air Flow Sensor) gets incorrect readings because none of the intakes utilize the fins that are used in the factory airbox that guides the air over the sensor.

The best remedy is to do the "Blue Bomber Mod". Buy an AEM replica off of ebay (you can usually find them for $10-$25).. and do the mod shown here. http://www.newcelica.org/forums/showthread.php?t=127862

You will be wasting your money any other way.

If you don't mind waiting, TPR (Tuning Precision Racing) offers a CAI that utilizes the oem fins and makes better gains throughout the powerband than any other intake for our cars. If you order one, there will be a long wait to get one as they are in high demand and the shop that they have making them is very slow
