Head lights 2000
Hello folks,
first of all thanks for all your help on my fuse and coolant problem. And now I got a new one funny how life works...anyway, I was talking to a friend of my who happens to have a Subaru and he was telling that his car's head lights can only be changed by the car dealer, and that got me thinking. If I have to change the head lights on my Malibu, can I do it meself or do I must go to my dealer? Another thing is that at night my head lights don't seem to be powerful enough to give me the illumination that I need, any suggestions? once again thanks |

I think your friend's full of crap, quite frankly, unless his Subaru has those new super-duper-triple fusion x-ray headlights I've heard about. J/k! Or if his electrical system's set up funky - I dunno. Anyway, though, to the best of my knowledge you shouldn't have any trouble changing your headlights yourself. Just be sure you do everything right (especially if you have the factory stereo that kills itself if you don't do something or other before doing something or other electrical-related - sorry I don't know specifics, but your manual should tell you.
As for the dimness - are the lenses yellowing/fogging with age? If so, there are only two cures I know of: 1. Replace the entire lens assembly. Not cheap, even if you can find the lenses at a junkyard. 2. Replace the bulbs with brighter ones. I don't know if this is even possible, but it'd be worth checking into.

Re: Head lights 2000
I am trying to change the headlight in my Malibu but don't know how to get to it. Can you help me. I opened the hood up to pop the headlight out but I can't seem to get it open. Is there some trick?
Thanks, Heather |

yeah you can get xenon bulbs for any car silverstar makes some good ones. and what is it you cant get open? if its the hood there is a latch in the center just above the grill you have to reach under in the gap between the grill and the hood. and for the head lights there are two tabs you pull up and then it releases the lights and the bulb is in the back of the light just twist it.
