Re: Inhale and exhale

favorite and D motor don't go together

swapping a head would be better or just dump the D all together.

the only way you'll see ANY power and still not much is mini me and F/I a D.

bah stop your crying, you want the honest truth you can get it or, if you want some shit such as "Son I had a y7 with apc muffler and pulled on some mad turbod s2k" you can go to clubcivic to be coddled by other "open minded" aka slow and need to lie.

z6 headswap with y8 intake mani.

Sorry but after having 2 D motors, They are worthless i've eaten a turbo D or 2 allmotor B even.

I'm a student on a budget also go to hondatech they happen to have THE best mini me write up i've yet to see.

Re: Inhale and exhale

fuck all motor. turbo it. its the cheapest route. spend 2grand or less and you'll have a serious good setup for daily driving. i haven't taken mine to get dyno tuned yet but a buddy scott has literally a near identical setup and is pushing 203whp/198wtq at 10psi. and i've still got a mini-me and ramhorn manifold in my setup ontop of his. i can't wait to get tuned

I didn't quite read the forum, but 10psi into a y7 sounds like flirting with disaster.

blk97civic, ace is right, it's really not worth it if you want to go fast. Speaking as a previous student, and now teacher, on a budget, you are really better off doing what you can to fight the bug to mod while you save some coin to spend on a DOHC v-tec. You can get b16s relatively cheap these days. b18c's are still pretty pricey. H22's are inexpensive - if you only wanna go fast in a straight line. there's lots of options.

by the time you get a mini-me swap in (installed correctly!!) and piece your own turbo kit together (and tuned correctly), you'll find that you have spent the same amount of money and time getting that up and going as you would have if you saved for a b16 or 18c. those do-it-yourself articles never mention all the periferal costs for parts, tools, etc etc.

Hold your wad (brick wall, brick wall, brick wall), and hold on for a bigger motor. spend your next pay check on taking a hot girl out, because with her in the seat, who gives a piss if some "thanks for the gsr motor mommy" trust fund baby beats you at a light? You're humpin a hot chick and he's goin home to his 50cent CD.

ok a couple things i gotta argue about.

1st off 10psi means NOTHING if you don't know what turbo were talking about. 10psi on say a t3 super60 is going to make alot more power than 10psi on an ihi rhb5(teeny turbo). its all about how much hp and torque your pushing through the motor and how your tuning is done

the turbo IM describing is a wrx..tdo4l-13g. its a smaller turbo but produces a tremendous amount of torque and is great for a fast spooling quick daily driver.

now your next comment about how by the time you finish a mini-me and a tuned hmt turbo setup you could have done a swap... well that is true. i agree that a tuned turbo setup WILL cost the same as a bswap... the fact your forgetting is that the turbo d will produce WAAAAAy more power than that stock b you just swapped in. even if you added some basic boltons the turbo D would still destroy it. take for example me and two of my friends. brett swapped in a b16a2 with about 50k into he ej8 chassis. spent 2500 for a shop to help install it. then take a look at me and my friend andy. both turbo'd our d's with hmt kits. he spent 1grand including tuning on his z6 in ej1 chasses. my turbo setup is running up to 2grand with tuning in my ej6 chasses. both of us can DESTROY the b16a2 without even trying.

the pathetic b swaps have next to 0 torque and thats their big disadvantage. my friends turbo z6 was dyno tuned to 201whp/165wtq and im looking at a solid 200+whp/190+wtq. the b16a2 has what like 130 crank torque?

now we should talk about goals. if your shooting for 500whp then i would in fact probably suggest swapping. it'll take the D a little more money to get to 500whp then a b series would but it is completely possible for the single cam'er to get there. i love seeing the d series represented but for that hp range i know more guys that could help you out getting a b there

money is the next thing. if your looking for the best bang for the buck to get your daily driven car some respectable pep, it would take you twice as much money to get your b going as fast as a well turbo'd d. for a quick 200whp fun car for the streets i have to put my hand down on this one and say turbo the D.

single cam for life

Welp...yeah...

though...never said a turbo'd D series wouldn't beat any given B series...just said after all is said and done, he'd likely be better off with a B series. I feel the D series funk you're flowin', I'm lookin for a mini me myself....mainly because I'm gettin to old for this stuff (let's not compare ages, it's just a saying) and don't wanna spend the coin on a motor that could be put toward a house or my master's degree.

I will look into 10psi not being 10 psi with different size turbos. I am by no means a FI expert, and not that I doubt your info, but my profession lends itself to an "I gotta see it for myself" kinda thing.

goals is the key, there should really be a formula for this:

Money you want to spend(x) - money you have(y) x labor/hour(l) + the need for speed / horsepower + cost of part times Pi.

I'm no math guy either. But there should really be a formula to measure costs vs. wants vs. insurance rates vs. ability to install vs. shipping vs. the world of other things we all have to weigh and inevitably lead to in all most all "What should I mod next" threads.

Either way, BLKcivic, do your thing. I'm sure that if you are within a decent travel radius, any of us would be willing to swing by and help install it. civicHB91 (I think that's his screen) helped me find a motor and get it home last year - pay it forawrd.

Re: Inhale and exhale

cool man. no disrespect intended anywhere. just trying to put some good stats etc forward into the light.

i like your idea about pay it forward. the import community is far less friendly than i'd like it to be.

like bikers.. whether your riding a chopper, a classic, or a crotch rocket, riders always wave to each other. if you haven't noticed this yet just watch for it. they always stick their arm out to wave to each other. and i wish we had that in the import community. more than half the time one guy will rev his engine trying to intimidate the other guy or something.

eh i'll stop blabbing on

goodluck to whatever you end up doing blk97civic4dlx . if you need help doing a mini-me or a turbo setup on that d let me know. im rockin a turbo'd y7/y8 mini-me right now
