97 speed sensor - wtf?
im used to checking the fluids on my 93's manual transmission. now i have a 97 and from the looks of it the speedo cable does not go into the speed sensor. the haynes/chilton manuals says it does.
what am i missing? the piece that looks like a speed sensor to me (similar electrical connection, similar shape, similar place, etc) has an empty hole at the top where i was used to putting the speedo cable. btw, the speedo works fine. does the 97 have some electrical speedometer sensor that haynes/chilton doesnt know about? or is the transmission different? i need to change the transmission fluids asap, and dont want to do anything stupid. anthony ps: access is way harder than on the 93 escort. is there any way to get in there and get the sensor out without removing the battery or raising the car? |

Wild guess- You are probably right. I'll bet they went to an electronic sensor.
