1996 Metro CV replacement.

I have just been given a 96 meto 1.3L and need to do some repairs. Specificly, I need to replace both transaxels since the CV joints are so far gone. I have purchased the Hanes manual and it looks pretty straight forward, but I was wondering if I need any special tools to do this repair. I do not want to get into the middle of complete tune up to find that I need a 32mm socket and 200Lbs of torque. (vw bug flywheel, don't ask). So any advice you could give would be more than welcomed.

I had to do this on my 2000 1.3L while removing the transmission for rebuilding. I did not need any special tools but I would suggest bearing the following in mind. Get a good prybar with a long handle to pop the driveshafts out of the transmission end. You will need new spindle nuts - once you unstake the old ones they cannot be reused. I think they need a 17mm socket and need to be torqued to 130 ft-lbs. Only other couple of steps is that you will need to remove the ball joint nut from the streering kuckle and also the 2 nuts/bolts from the strut so that you can move the wheeel hub assembly outwards to remove the driveshafts.

its a lot bigger than a 17mm, and if you just remove the bolt that holds the lower control arm to the hub you can swing hub out far enough to remove the axle without removing the 2 upper bolts that hold the hub to the strut. turning the steering all the way to the left will give you extra swing on hub to remove the right axle and opposite for left. also unless you jack the side your gonna pull a lot higher than oposite side you will lose some fluid out of the tranny so have a catch basin handy
