Antifreeze leak

my gf has a 97 sebring jxi convertible. it has 115k miles and just had the water pump replaced. and every once in a while the car will overheat and allllll of the antifreeze will leak out. and i mean alllll of it. then if she puts in new antifreeze it just happens again a little further down the road. she really needs her car asap. could someone please help me out with what to do? or what the problem could be?

Re: Antifreeze leak

it's a possibility that the last person who did the water pump didn't put a simple $2 o-ring that connects the water pump to the water pipe and that's why she has a leak. Another possibility is a busted water pump gasket. Also, check the radiator for cracks in the seams; if you can have a pressure check done on the system to isolate the leak exactly.

Re: Antifreeze leak

most independent shops don't charge anything, some go as high as $40 to look at, either way, it's still cheap. Like I said, they can perform a pressure test on your car and see where the problem lies specifically.

Re: Antifreeze leak

that sounds like a shady mechanic trying to sell you an unneeded alternator and battery to me

were you having any problems with the battery or alternator?

I agree, but if you do need a new battery and alternator, the alternator is a real PITA to get out. I did one on my wife's 2000 sebring and it was not fun. Did he say why you need a new radiator? Is it clogged, leaking, or what?

I am having the exact same issue and mine is due to the cooling fan intermittently not turning on. Don't replace your radiator unless there is a leak! Turn on your AC and see if the engine fan is blowing. If it doesn't then the cooling fan is your issue. Let us know how it goes.
