1966 Imapla convt

Just picked up a new project to do. How much does this 66 impala weigh as a Covnt? Also I can only keep it running by putting gas into the carb. I am thinking pump, filter, needle valve stuck in Qjet carb, tank sending unit. any more ideas out there? I know this 66 is heavy, because during towing on the 4 hour trip I couldnt go over 50 mph, due to the fish tailing.

The 'verts weigh in at about 200 lbs over hardtops, yours should be around 3800 lbs or so. The registration or title should have it on there.

As far as your fuel problem goes, check all your fuel lines back to the tank. The rubber pieces can suck air when they get dry rotted. If all looks well, disconnect the line before the fuel pump, blow it back to the tank, but don't over do it with the pressure. 30 psi will do it. Then reconnect the line to the fuel pump. Now disconnect it at the carb inlet, while someone cranks the motor (disconnect the coil wire), see if any fuel will pump into an empty container. You should get a pint in like 10 seconds. If you get little or nothing, replace the fuel pump.

If you're going to use the car, replace the fuel pump regardless, especially if it has been sitting around. Give the gas in the tank the sniff test, if it smells funky, drop the tank and either replace it or get it boiled out. Treat the sending unit and float very carefully, if you bend something or break off a wire the gage might not work or be inaccurate.

Replaced rubber fuel lines and fuel filter and put a new pump on. Pump must have dried up inside because that did the trick. After 15 years of no running the 327 sounds great. No knocks, or lifter ping whew. Now for the brakes.
