breaking an apartment lease?

I just broke my apartment lease. I don't have the money to pay the rest of the rent which they are expecting. I am sure someone here has been in this situation before. I owe about 1800. I did not give them a new address. The only thing they have is my cell phone number.

Other than messing up my credit, what can they really do? (I live in Pennsylvania)

Re: breaking an apartment lease?

Sue you I suppose. Go talk to them and see about working out a payment plan or something. They are there to make money, not screw up your credit. They would much rather get paid over a period of time than not get paid at all. Having screwed up credit is worse than you think it is, trust me ive been there before.

Re: breaking an apartment lease?

Dude, I can tell you EXACTLY what will happen... they will send you warnings, and when you don't respond, they will put a warrant out for your arrest. Then you get a "nice" visit from your local Deputy Constable who will find you (Yes, they will) and you will be taken to the local Judge to pay court costs + whatever you owed + any other fees they feel like charging you with.

Dude, go to the landlord and make arrangements and save yourself some face.

If you don't, it will be hanging over your head.

Re: breaking an apartment lease?

i settled up today, I had the money. I was just seeing how hard they would push to get it. I was kind of hoping they would forget about it.

my neighbor trashed his place and was evicted several months ago. I know they didn't get dick from him.

Re: breaking an apartment lease?

yeah, "rightfully so" but i saw what my old neighbor did to them a couple months ago, and I was hoping I could pull the same thing, minus trashing the place, I left it in move in condition.

Re: breaking an apartment lease?

still just cause he was a jerk and did somthing wrong doesn't mean you should also.

You manned up and did right thing granted i'm sure your check book isn't thrilled not setting them back and keeping your credit in shape are good but best of all you can keep your pride by doing right.

If everyone did it like you did things would be alot easier

He wasnt crying about how he didnt want to pay because his neighbor didnt, he just stated that he wished they had forgotten about it, if you were in his situation I am sure you would have hoped the same thing. CHILL THE FUCK OUT!!!!!!

Re: breaking an apartment lease?

certainly sounds like he's complaining cause he had to pay and his neighbors didn't. If that's not being a crybaby, I don't know what is.

I'm not a landlord, and don't care to be 'cause I don't wanna put up with crybabies who have the money but don't wanna give it up cause someone else didn't have to and the damned crybaby doesn't know the entire story behind why their neighbor didn't have to pay.

the lease agreement says that you have to usually give at least 30 days (most likely 60)...sure they can get someone in to replace you but it might take a month and thats several hundred dollars out of their pocket....

i could be a superintendant but i dont think i could ever be a landlord...man.....all my neighbours in the past couple of places, you always get some drunks, stoners, wife beaters, etc etc...or just plain weirdos...how they ever get in i dont know its not worth the money to let them in
