Motor pictures, pulled head off, pictures of head internals, lots more to come 56k NO
Ok so heres what I got done today. I pulled the head off and started to clean it up to get it ready for all the new seals. I ordred a upper end rebuild kit and it should be here on monday, and I'm putting my order in for my ARP head studs tomorrow and they will be overnighted on monday so my car should be running by thursday. And be inspected and legal by next weekend. Heres some pics of what I got done today. I try to take more than enough pictures for the people who dont get to tear into their motors that much so they can get a better idea of what goes on in there engine and what it looks like.
Cams out and head ready to come off Cam assembly, i always try to keep everything in order so all the bolts get put back in the same spots and nothing gets lost. Block with the head off, pistons look good for the most part, I found a slight score on #2 cylinder but it doesnt look to be like anything to worry about too much, I plan to get a new block before going with boost anyway. Valve side of the head with the intake mani still on. Intake ports, manifold off. Passenger side of the head, with vtec selonoid removed. Pretty dirty. Much cleaner, hoping to get even cleaner. coolant port removed. Found some wierd substance inside the coolant port, i think its either cystalized coolant, or sealer mixed with coolant. Bottom half of the vtec selonoid, this is the side that bolts against the head. Upper part of the vtec selonoid, the part that bolts against the lower part. Upper part of the bottom half of the vtec selonoid, the part that bolts against the upper part of the selonoid pictured in the above photo. The head partially disassebled and cleaned, await its new seals. Thanks for looking guys. Wish me goodluck and check back for more pictures and eventually a how to.

Just placed my order for ARP head studs. $123 overnighted to my front door. ill be sure to post pics of them.
STOCK OEM studs are 100 bucks from the dealer, so why wouldnt anyone get ARPS?

Dude, you really need to get that had milled. You don't want to blow anymore headgaskets. Plus it only costs like $30.

Re: Motor pictures, pulled head off, pictures of head internals, lots more to come 56k NO
I think the reason it blew out again is cause of re using the head studs. which is why im getting arps. im going to get a straight edge and see if its warped myself and if i do notice warpage then i'll get it done, if not then i wont. Its never overheated on me before so I dont see a reason for it to have warped.

Re: Motor pictures, pulled head off, pictures of head internals, lots more to come 56k NO
I got my head rebuild kit and the arp studs. I labled all the seals in the head kit for future reference for anyone else. Im kinda pissed this set didnt come with a TB gasket, but mine is still in good shape so no worries.
Heres a few pics for now. These are the Valve Stem Seals. Its very important you dont mix them up they are not interchangable. This is the only seal im not going to replace. Always make sure all the old paper Intake Manifold gasket is removed before installing the new one. This is how I ended up taking my cam gears off to put on the new cam gear seals. I tried using wood first but it kept slipping out. ARP head studs. Cant go wrong with these bad boys. ![]() Well thats all for now. I'll be assembling the motor tonight hopefully whenever I can get someone over here to help me push my car into the garage.

Got the head back together and cleaned some more parts. Its ready to go back on, just need someone to help push the car into the garage. Gotta love it when friends say they are gonna help and bail on on the last minute to go to the mall with their girlfriends.
