Does anyone know why the ""window sticker" gas milage rating, for the Taurus, has been moving downward in recent years? I owned a '93 GL
that always gave 30 mpg and now have a '01 SES with the same 3.0 vulcan engine and at the very best can only get 27 mpg with it. I understand the new taurus gets even less mpg. What's up with Ford going backward in fuel mileage? |

when you consider highway miles. I've noticed the vulcan engine has had a few intake and exhaust manifold changes, among other things, sense my '93 GL days. The body has to be much more aerodynanatmic with the jelly bean styling but just ain't helping mpg. I will brag on my '01 SES as being the most dependable car I've ever owned at 104K miles to date. I've kept the tranny fluid new in fear the transmixer might give up as my former Taurus did. |

Re: Taurus Gas Mileage
the way the EPA calculates fuel economy ratings has changed over the years. Also, the taurus slowly got heavier over its production run.

Re: Taurus Gas Mileage
Driving technique has much to do with gas mileage. People driving over 85 MPH on Interstates these days & often around 100+ can't expect good mileage. Best advice I've had recently is that if I'm doing lots of hard braking, is costing gas mileage.
