thoughts? preventive engine care?

BlazerLT,

just to ask ...

recently you have done ... the H20 steam clean of carbon from combustion chambers AND use of AutoRX to clean sludge and varnish from engine.

so ... question ... what made you decide to do these things?

the reason I ask is ... I have a Jimmy at 120,500 mileage ... as of yet ... no major problems - lifter noise or detonation ...

I've thought of doing both 'steam clean' AND/ OR AutoRX just as preventative maintenance ... well ... again ... what made you decide to do these things??? preventive or otherwise ??

I also have a strong sense of ' ... don't mess with things unless there's a problem ..."

thoughts ??? at what point do you think it wise to do the steam clean and AutoRX??? should I wait for a problem??

Re: thoughts? preventive engine care?

I did them as preventative maintanence to clear up any carbon and oil sluge and deposits in the engine before they get bad enough to cause a major failure.

It is like people washing everyday in the shower. Sure it really isn't needed, but it will offset any accumulation of funk that could lead to health problems in the future.

Catch my drift?

good analogy Blazer;

the "don't fix it, if it isn't broke" is good for body and chassis; but you are talking about an internal combustion engine, with moving parts, grueling temperatures, changing climate conditions, and this is even difficult for some motors and engines at -0- miles; not along at 120+K.
in the military it was called PMCS:
preventative maintenance checks and service.
the "steam clean" alone will assist in greater intake area for an air/fuel charge to detonate=larger potential compression.
...plus here's a quote, if it doesn't work; "no harm, no foul," but Blazer is correct by stipulating the 'shower cleaning' is cheap insurance.

What are these two things that you are talking about and how do I go about doing it or having it done. I am due for an oil change in about 1K miles.
