Power Window Problem -- 94 CV

So this is driving me nuts...

94 Crown Vic.

Last week, I wanted to put the windows down. The left rear window got about halfway down when it stopped moving, but I could hear what sounded like crunching in the door, then the motor stopped. The motor now engages for about 3 seconds, then stops. The window can be pushed up and down. I took the door panel off, and discovered a loose cable (I don't think it is supposed to be loose). The cable connected to the bottom of the window, went down to the bottom of the door, went through a tube, which goes to the top of the door (stopping in the middle for what I presume is the motor) and then I guess the cable comes out and connects to the bottom of the window (but I can't really see in there that well to tell). Somewhere in me trying to mess with it, the cable came loose on the easily visible side. I really don't know what to look for here, so if anyone could give me some guidance or point me in the direction for some diograms of the system or something, that would be great.

By the way, I seem to recall that the previous owners of the car had the same problem with the passenger door window. That was pretty bad because the window wouldn't stay up while driving. They got it fixed at the Ford dealership for around $400 I think. I am just trying to avoid that kind of bill, as I don't have much money to blow on this car.

That lose cable is part of your window regulator that needs to be replaced as a unit. I think that you can buy that aftermarket, they are all over Ebay for around $20. I think that they fit 92-01 Crown Victoria or Grand Marquis.

Rear Door


Removal

1. If rear door window glass (25712) is in the down position and is inoperable, the following steps must be taken; if rear door window glass is operational, proceed to Step 2.

a. Remove rear door trim panel (27406) and watershield.

CAUTION:
Be careful not to drill through the mechanism behind inner door panel.

CAUTION:
Be careful not to strike or scratch rear door window glass (25713).

b. Mark inner door panel and drill three holes 12.7mm (0.5 inch) as shown.

c. Remove rear door electric window regulator retaining screws through holes.

CAUTION:
Be careful not to strike or scratch rear door window glass.

d. Remove rear door electric window regulator (27008) off mounting bracket through access hole.

e. Remove window regulator electric drive (23394) from drum housing and cover.

f. Raise rear door window glass to full-up position by hand and secure with a clamp.

g. Proceed to Step 4.

CAUTION:
When servicing rear door electric window regulator assembly, regulator cable tension must not be altered. Cable tension is preset at production. Improper adjustment may result in premature rear door electric window regulator failure or erratic operation.

2. Remove rear door trim panel and watershield.

3. Remove rear door window glass as outlined.

4. Disconnect window regulator electric drive wiring connector.

5. Remove three 6.35mm (1/4-inch) rivets retaining motor bracket to inner panel and two 6.35mm (1/4-inch) rivets retaining lower bracket of rear door electric window regulator to inner panel. Use drift punch to knock out center pins for each rivet. Using a 6.35mm (1/4-inch) diameter drill, drill out remainder of rivet. Use care not to enlarge sheet metal holes in the door inner panel.

6. Remove two upper rear door electric window regulator retaining nuts.

7. Remove rear door electric window regulator.

Installation

1. Lubricate rear door electric window regulator with TeflonŽ Lubricant E7FZ-19590-A (ESB-M1C111-A) or equivalent as outlined.

2. Install rear door electric window regulator into access hole in inner panel.

3. Position rear door electric window regulator using upper rear door electric window regulator studs and tabs on window regulator electric drive mounting bracket.

4. Install rivets retaining rear door electric window regulator to door inner panel (1/4-20 x 1/2 inch bolt and 1/4-20 nut and washer assemblies or equivalent metric fasteners may be used as alternates).

5. Install two upper rear door electric window regulator retaining nuts. Tighten to 9-14 N-m (7-10 lb-ft).

6. Install rear door electric window regulator as outlined.

7. Adjust rear door window glass as outlined.

8. Install watershield and rear door trim panel.
