Programming PK3 key and remote starter
My venture has one of those keys that need programming and are only available directly through GM. Cost me almost $200 for an extra key! Anyway, my remote starter no longer works. I understand they went into the electrical to program the key, could that have screwed up my remote? Anyone have experience with this?

Re: Programming PK3 key and remote starter
I dont know everything about this, as I know all remote starters are slightly different. I know that my remote starter reads what frequency or 'code' the factory security system is looking for and duplicates it, essentialy giving the computer the code it wants to start the van.
Perhaps with the new key, the computer may be seeking 2 different codes and the remote starter simply isnt giving it the right code. I have also heard, but not confirmed that some security systems are programmed to use the codes of the 2nd key to fake out the theiftlock system into thinking the key is in there. I havent seen it but It would make sense to me that when the 2nd key is programmed the vans computer would see the remote starter is the "missing" key and would deny it starting. Thats just a theroy. I have also seen remote starters (Directed electronics automate) that simply bypass the security system completely and start the van by controlling and bypassing all of the items that the factory security system controls such as fuel pump and starter solonoid, you get the idea.. What it really depends on is what brand of remote starter is it, and how does it get past theiftlock? |

Re: Programming PK3 key and remote starter
I know this is an old thread, but I just came accross it,all you should need to do is take both your good keys, put one in and turn it to run,but don,t start it,when the theft light goes out take that key out and put the other one in right away and do the same, take it out when the theft light goes out, then hit your autostart button, that should program the autostart back into the system, the way they programed your new key would have cleared all previous keys......the ones I install work that way...give it a try...good luck....
