Angry sr20det after swap issues

i just finished up my sr swap ( zenki black top sr20 ) into my 1990 s13. now i am having all kinds of issues with it. it starts fine but once you rev it once it idles like hell. if you turn the key on but dont crank it the brake light, door open light, and the seat belt light all stay on with the key out of the ignition. oh and i think that my starter has gone bad because it will only crank about half the time, the other times it just clicks. but i have a tech support guy that suggested an Apex'i SAFC II and do a sensor check so i have that on order. also there seems to be an issue with the flywheel bolts twisting off and causing the crank to spin out of balance which causes the idle issue. but if anyone has run into any of these issues before please let me know. i have just over $10k in this swap with performance parts and i cant get it on the road. please help.

re: swap issues

no i didnt even demate the engine and tranny. but there had to be a reason that the car got cut in half in japan and sold off as a front clip. but i think that a flywheel and clutch upgrade needs to be done anyways but i already have $10k in the car and i dont want to spend much more.

wiring harness is probably also fucked up, obviously if those lights aren't functioning properly.

now when i say $10000 i mean with all the tools, and upgrade parts. but if you want to get down to it there was alos a body kit and a CF hood in that 10k , and the cost of the car but that was only a grand. so it is more like $7800. but i upgraded the intercooler, bov, fuel pump, oil pan, radiator and fan, exhaust, intake, sensors, safc II, battery, not to mention all of the raw materials that i had to buy to custom make a few parts. also the only unrelated part to the swap was a set of JIC majic coilovers. oh and you asked where i got the clip, it is a place in SC called rims and things (dont buy anything from them the cost of the clip was to include all body panels but they never sent them, they are kinda shady) and i know now that i should have upgraded the flywheel and clutch but in all the honda swaps that i have done i have never once had an issue, now i know better, this is the first nissan that i have done and i did it by myself. everyone has to start somewhere.

the starting thing sould be something with spark/ignition just stabbing in the dark though

the idle problem could be, the idle air controls/valve, or it could be sourced back to the BOV is it open atmosphere, and if so did you setup the safc to correct for it

the whole thing about the lights i say something got messed up in the wiring

If a shop's name only implies wheels I don't think I'd buy an intake or other performance part much less an entire front clip. As for the body panels, if you have proof they told you the body panels were included and they never sent them, get a lawyer.

Re: sr20det after swap issues

Just making sure where you got it so I dont go there too. Read the FAQs on heavythrottle.com. Read at the bottom of the "installation guide", there are some things there that may help you.

Re: sr20det after swap issues

I will have my engine in this month, it is the exact same swap that you did, but I think that my engine is from a better shop. I will post any problems that I have, if I have any. I know that my clutch was cracked, so you should check out your flywheel and clutch for sure! Other than that, my engine looks brand new, and not just on the outside. Good luck!

Re: sr20det after swap issues

RimsNThings is a shady place. I went there once to check it out. They had a bunch of seats stacked on top of each other from all kinds of different cars. They had a skyline on it's rotors with the engine missing and the wheels inside of it. They had a bunch of JDM Honda stuff but it looked like a lot of it was broken. I asked about a part and they said contact them before coming back.... well, I emailed them and never heard back. Living in Upstate SC sucks cuz only one performance shop that sells more than stereos and rims and they're a rip off and that place mentioned that is a sloppy jdm warehouse. GL

the reason that i did the swap myself rather then pay for it to be done is simple. when it is done and someone comes up to me and asks " hey man where did you get that motor put in at?" i can look at them and say i did it myself. there is just something about do a job yourself. only that can you really say that it is your car, not a car that someone else built for you.

Re: Re: sr20det after swap issues

oh no dont get me wrong i have no problem with peoplethat take their cars to a shop to get the swap done. i am soon to open my own here in akron ohio. my partner and i are finishing up our business proposal. but i had the time and the money to try it myself. and i just wanted to know if i could just figure it out without professional help. and now i have the confidence that no matter what the automotive task i am up to it. it was just a test to see if i had the ability and the balls to tear apart a car with less then a 100k miles, that ran great and make something that is really something. it was good before now it is just plain mean.
