95 Bonneville Brake shift interlock

I have a 95 Bonneville SE. When it gets cold in the winter I can't shift the car out of park. After the car warms up, it shifts ok. I'm thinking that maybe that brake shift interlock solenoid is causing my problems and was hoping to unhook the cable from the brake interlock to the transmission linkage (automatic, center console). I opened up the console and see where the cable attaches but don't know how to disconnect it and don't want to break the plastic clip on the end of the cable. Does anyone know either:

1) how to take the shift interloc cable off the transmission shift linkage, or
2) where is the the brake shift interlock located and how can i disable it?

Thx

Btsi

I finally took the center console apart and had better access to the brake shift interlock cable and was able to remove it from the shifter linkage. I had to put the key into the ignition, and push down on the brake pedal which gave me extra slack to remove the plastic clip on the end of the cable from the shifter linkage. All works well now and I expect this to work fine in the winter as well.
I found out that the BTSI (Brake Transmission Shift Interlock) switch is located above and in front of the brake pedal (behind the dash). However, this is an electrical connection. Somehow the electrical connection must go to a solenoid which then releases the tension on the cable after the brake pedal is pushed in. I suspect that this solenoid needs to be replaced or the cable itself since everything works fine in warm weather but not in cold weather. In any event, since i disconnected the cable it'll work fine but I'd prefer to fix the real problem and re-enable the BTSI. Does anyone know where the BTSI solenoid is located or where the cable originates from?

Re: 95 Bonneville Brake shift interlock

I thought the [brake] shift interlock solenoid was located on the shifter assembly under the console. Towards the rear of the assembly.

There is a cable on my 90 that prevents the gear selector from moving out of park when the ignition off. It doesn't have anything to do with the brakes though. It begins at the top of the steering column. Call it the 12:00 position on the column. I haven't really farted around with it but i have colums from 89, 93 and 97 at my house if you need a pic.
