Broken vent tube on 249 transfer case

The vent tube is busted off at the base where it connects to the transfer case. Does anyone know if these are press fit in? I'd like to replace the vent tube. The first person I called and asked about it said not to worry about replacing it, but it seems like dirt and water could get in through the hole.

From the parts breakout diagram, it looks to me like it just presses in.

Re: Broken vent tube on 249 transfer case

I'll see if I can just buy a new one then. If not, I'll just try to buy a tube that can fit into the existing hole.

Re: Broken vent tube on 249 transfer case

Your right about the dirt getting in if the vent is left broke and open.

When off roading, it should be checked often. Should be checked every oil change anyway. If it plugs off, pressure builds in the housing and fluid starts leaking out the seals.
