hello to all

i have spent alot of time in the honda life and now have sold my prelude and got a talon just like to see what you guys think of how i did. i feel good about it but i know just about nothing with these cars. but here it is i just got a one owner 97esi 5speed with 108k miles it just had the timing belt done and new rubber put on, there nice allseason perellis i think thats how its spelled anyway never been hit. inside is clean and paint is still good could use some soap and water. brakes are good every thing feels tight on it, works good . i paid 2900. is that as good as i think it is. but can you tell me something to look out for and tell me somethings about it like mpg how it is in snow weak parts of the car like the trans i know you hafe to watch out for them. thank you

p.s
this is my way of saying hello to all the new guys ill be talking to

Re: hello to all

I would have bought the turbo Talon (TSi) if I were you, I made this same mistake. The car is still fun to drive, but it leaves you wanting more.

As for the price...I also bought mine as one-owner in mint condition with 135k miles, regular tune-ups and oil always changed every 3k miles for $1500. She runs like brand new.

I'd suggest you put a turbo kit on that and build out the engine, it's capable of about 350whp or more depending on how you build it. Of course, the TSi could also hit 350whp with half the money....

Well....I guess the price wasn't too bad. It's a 97, which is good because they stopped making talons in 98, so it's considered a later model car. Miles are a little high, but if it dosn't bother you then so what. Atleast its a 5 speed.

Things to look out for.....weird idle, squeeling belts, broken door handles, that sort of thing. My door handle broke the other day, what a pain in the ass.

They arn't too bad in snow, as long as it isnt very deep and you have decent tires. Otherwise, they suck in snow.

MPG......this varies quite a bit. Depending on how you drive and where, you will probably get somewhere around 24-25 mpg average. On the interstate with the cruise set at 70, I get close to 31. That was before I put in the new coil, wires, and plugs. I bet I will get closer to 33-34 on the interstate now.

If you have the money, it would probably be to your benefit to turbo the car with a hahn kit. It'll cost you between 2-3 g's, but you would be boosted. Don't get some shitty kit offa ebay. Nothing but dissapointment. Otherwise, the usual mods like I/H/E will give you a little extra spunk when you put the pedal down. Good luck.

Re: hello to all

Wow, I'm impressed guys. You gave him suggestions to turbo the 420a instead of selling and buying a Tsi. Why the change of heart?

I got tired of crushing the hopes and dreams of those new to the DSM family that made the mistake of buying a N/T like me. Plus, he was bound to ask at some point anyway, everyone does. Just saving one extra thread about "do you guys think I should turbo it".

Personally I think $2900 for that year and miles is a good deal. I bought the equivelant of your car, except is an Eclipse for $4100, a '98 and with 108k miles too.
