Need help picking a tonneau
Hey I am looking to purchase a soft tonneau cover I was thinking about getting a torza top folding cover but after playing with the model I don't like all of the plastic now my main problem is that I have a 05 stepside silverado and I don't want to lose anymore of the bed space with the rail so is there any role up that has the rail system on top or something that doesn't take up to much space thanks

I know you're asking about soft tonneu covers - but I thought I'd link a picture of the folding hard cover I use. Its a bit more money than the soft ones - but requires no bed space - gives key locking security - handles rain and winter ice & snow in a FULLY WATERPROOF manner. Wind doesn't bother it or move it. Easy fast opening and closing. And the cover can be removed from the truck in less than 60 seconds or be driven part open (either front 1/4th open or back 3/4ths open). Materials are all aircraft aluminum and stainless steel. More cost but longer lifetime use too. ![]() Just a thought for your consideration.

Re: Need help picking a tonneau
Lightening,
Who makes your tonneau and how much did it cost?

2 different manufacturers make essentially the same product. One is Fold-a-Cover. This product can be purchased from any GM or Ford dealership - and they'll install it for you. Many places that do truck accessories or Line-X or Rhino linings etc. also sell and install them. You can also order Fold-a-covers from many online truck accessories outlets. A self install will cost you about $575 plus shipping and tax. A full install will run $650 to $720 depending on source. The second manufacturer is K Covers and they are only available as a self install for about the same price as the Fold-a-Cover. Mine is a K Cover - because I liked its mounting and locking method a bit better. However - be forewarned - if you self install and if you want A TIGHT SMOOTH EVEN install look - plan on spending more than a couple hours doing it to get it right. If you do it properly - and use patience - it is deadon watertight in the heaviest rains and heavy winds. No rattles - no shifting or movement - no noises and no maintenance. All the hinges are full width of bed and all are rubber shrouded stainless steel hinges on mine. Supposedly - you can stand on it - at least the good looking models in the ads do Personally - I looked at a lot of tonneau covers. I didn't want a bed cap - and I didn't want any of the soft tonneau covers I saw - because any sharp object opens any of them for theft of bed contents. Because I live in Wisconsin - we get snow and ice - lots of it - and again - soft covers just don't work with an inch of ice and 7 inches of snow on the cover. But I also didn't want the solid fiberglass tonneau covers - because I haul lots of stuff of all sizes and shapes (and heights). For me (and not neccessarily anyone else) - it was worth every penny in price and effort - and knowing what I know now - I'd pay twice the price if I had to. White Lightening |

I bought a tonneau cover that instead of snaps it uses velcro. Made by Agri-Cover it's called the Roll-up Cover. I'm very satisfied with it.

Re: Need help picking a tonneau
I have an Extang RT from truckaddons and it's really good. It installed fast and removes easily. It leaves room on the top of the bed for bed rails. Rolls up easily with no tools. This is my 3rd soft cover and they make a little noise when the wind rattles the cover on the bows. They are not a theft deterrent.

Re: Need help picking a tonneau
Look at the Truxedo Truxport tonneau. The Truxport is a roll up top mount on bed rails and cost $250 from four wheel on line .com.
The Truxport is a cheaper version of the Truxedo. I don`t know how great a cover you want? For my money this was the best deal I could find. I couldn`t see paying 400+ for a soft tonneau cover. I have had mine since spring and like it so far. It looks good but I`ve seen nicer covers, not at this price though. http://4wheelonline.com/Images/Categ...portRolled.jpg http://www.4wheelonline.com/ |
