Tranny problems
Have a 1997 Aerostar 3.0L with a 4R44E transmission. Have to start driving in 2nd and manually shift to 3rd after 20km drives no prob and goes into OD. Could it be a module or something small like it needs a fluid and filter change. I was told I needed a new tranny ($2500) from a guy who has not even looked at it yet. Hoping for suggestions everything runs to smooth.

Re: Tranny problems
might want to try using an oil additive, recomend lucas, My transmission was missing, here in Mexico they'll "reconstruir" I don't know how to say that in english, for $650.00 us dlls. (overhaul?) But first I tried Using an additive, I've already put 3000 miles on it and it's running great.

And make sure who ever checks it knows what they are doing or is certified in transmission repair. Avoid transmission chain shops because they are replace transmission happie. Lot of computer stuff on it and also a engine or engine sensor problem can mess it up. May be simple fix or a hole transmission. But say no to additives. Also a good time to check fluid and filter.
