squeeky breaks driving me nuts!

In june 2005 i bought all new brakes , rotors, shoes, u name it, it got it done...almost 500 dollars worth of work at the dealer, and ever since they got fixxed they squeek at every press of the pedal! wether i slam on them or slow down easy, they squeek. I took it back to the dealer and they claim that its surface material and that its normal for my breaks to be loud as all hell. anyways, they "burned" off this "surface material" off the rotors and said that it shouldnt squeek anymore, well that worked for about....no time at all. so did i get some cheap POS brake job or what? i dont know what to do becuase everytime i go up to that damn dealer they say that its normal its normal but i never thought that breaks u can hear from a mile away are normal at all...please help!! thanks

Re: squeeky breaks driving me nuts!

It isn't normal for brakes to squeal. Take the wheel off and check to see if there are shims behind the pads. If not take the calipers off and put what is called brake quiet on the back of the pads, it costs about $3 at an autoparts store. This will stop the vibration that is causing the noise. Even if there are shims a light coating won't hurt.

The other thing to do is to lubricate the mounting points and the slides with brake grease. Don't get any on the pads or rotors and only use grease designed for brakes. I realize you have paid good money for this brake job but I am not a fan of dealers for anything other than warranty work that they have to do for free.

also see if they used ceramic pads. I do about 30 brake jobs a week and on a lot of the newer cars you have to use ceramic. A little more expensive but worth it in the long run. When they first came out I thought nobody would buy them, but they do definately help.
