electric oil psi gauge install

started installin my autometer oil psi gauge(electronic) and ran into a few questions.

1) do you guys recommend removing the stock sending unit and replacing it with the autometer one or is it better to use one of the spare ports? and if so are all the ports near the stock sender usable?

2) wheres the best place to ground the guage? instructions say "groudn near the sender on an engine groud"

thanks for any help

Re: electric oil psi gauge install

for the sender you should just buy a tee so that you can have both of them mounted in the same port. if you just unplug the stock one your oil light will stay on all the time. for the ground just ground it to any bolt going into the block

Actually, when you unplug the stock sender, the light doesnt come on at all.

Re: electric oil psi gauge install

It is just a light. DSMODDER has a 97 eclipse. Doesnt the turbo models have an oil gauge? I know they have a sender unit right above the oil filter. If you unplug that, your gauge will not work. If you get an aftermarket one, take out the stock pieces, and use the new sender.

Re: electric oil psi gauge install

yes 2gs have a oil gauge and warning light. i was thinking of retaining the warning light and using the aftermarket gauge just incase im not paying attention for some odd reason and the stock sender shows the light...

anyway has anybody used one of the spare ports in the oil filter housing for this or should i just use a t fitting???

also wheres the best place to ground the gauge.

Re: electric oil psi gauge install

I like to keep the light and replace the guage. There is absolutely no point in keeping the stock guage, there are no numbers on it, rendering it completely and utterly useless. Thanks Mitsu. Keep the light just in case. On the 2G, the front sender is the light, the rear is the guage.
