Knock Sensor's hole?

Hey Guys, I picked up the knock sensor for my 91 454 2500 which has been giving me a "Check Engine Soon" lite code 43.

I found the location of the old one, can anyone tell me what the knock sensor screws into? Is it into a water jacket, or when I remove the one sensor will water pour out? Or is the Knock Sensor screwed into the block with just a threaded hole?

Tomorrow I want to replace the Knock Sensor after Mass, but thought I would ask the experts here what I should expect.

Thanks for all the help!!!

Re: Knock Sensor's hole?

I have the 90 Factory Service Manuals that cover both the 5.7 and 7.4 Engines. According to the FSM, the sensor is NOT in a water jacket so you do not have to drain the coolant to replace it.

Should be straight forward.

I changed the Knock Sensor in less than 30 minutes, it was real easy thanks to this board.

Did your Check Engine Light go off? I hope that was your problem.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Knock Sensor's hole?

Actually NO,

The local shop that read the code 43 charged me $20 for the check. Not bad seeing another shop wanted $49 just to check the codes.

It may be the wiring or now I thinking that just maybe he made up the code number. I'll know when I can figure out how to test the connection to the Knock sensor. Is there voltage there on the wire? The wiring looks good at first site without pulling on it.

IS there a site to go to for infomation on how to test the Knock Sensor\ wiring?

Thanks

Re: Knock Sensor's hole?

The knock sensor is either open or closed. The Knock sensor goes to the ESC Module which is on the passenger side of the TB mounted to a bracket. Make sure the ground wire to the ESC module did not break. If the ground looks good. The problem is either a bad wire to the ECM or the ESC module is bad. My guess would be the latter.

Your best bet for information on your truck are the factory service manuals. Ebay (used) or helminc.com (new).
