Need some advice

I'm going to take a look at a 91 automatic Sprint tomorrow. The ad says it has 116000 miles (miles or kilometers?), new blue paint last year and 4 extra studded winter tires. The guy is asking 700 OBO, I'll see if he'll take 600 for it, because that's all I'll have with me. What are some things I should look for, as far as trouble spots? I've been told that the auto tranny cars tend to tear up the rings around 100000 miles or so, so I should do a compression test, right? What else should I be doing/looking for? This car is a 4 door which is exactly what I was looking for, and the price is right up my alley, so I hope it turns out to be in good shape. Yes, I will take pics and post 'em here after I get back.

with barrels of oil going up,
this vehicle would be up anyone's alley.
yes, a compression check if advised, but not necessary if the car seems to be running great.
carfax.com? unless the seller has receipts for maintenance, or can tell you where it has been serviced, so you can call the company, and get a printout of work done.
need further assist, or questions answered on the spot;

hope this helps,
