headlight motor mishap

Lets see, i have an '88 LeBaron and the headlight motor is giving me some trouble. Oh about a month ago i pulled in my driveway and noticed that the headlight doors were about 1/2 way up. So i got back in and turned then on, they went down then turned them off again and they just wont go all the way back up. Now they only go up 1/8 to 1/4 of the way up then it starts clicking. Any suggestions? Motor? relay? the gears inside the motor stripped so it just cant turn the rod to lift the doors? bad luck? I have looked over all the components up front, like assuring that the doors move freely, and the plasic pieces from the rod to the doors are in fairly good shape. I just dont know? thanks for any suggestions

Re: headlight motor mishap

Mine did the same plus loud squeaking. Sprayed lots of WD-40 into it and then it worked fine.

Yea, I have a '92 LeBaron and my headlights have been stuck down ever since I got it. I never really took the time to look into fixing it... Does anyone know about it? Would I have to replace a motor, and if so how much labor does it take, and how much money would the part cost?

i took the headlight motor of today and then i took the gears out of the motor. i discovered the outer gear is worn but useable but the inside part of the gear that keeps the rod turning withe the outer gears that are turned by the motor are just destroyed. Were do i get these gears? thanks-

oh yeah and to take the motor off its pretty easy. You'll have to slide under the front bumped and the motor up alittle ways but real easy to get to. First i unclip the rod from the doors. To do this look to both sides of the and were the rod ends it gose into little plastic holders and a metal clip goes threw those, unclip and pull them off and pull the plastic clip off the doors(slide it down the rod), then unclip the wire going to the motor and undo 3 bolts on the motor then wiggle the motor down with the rod and its off. Sorry but i dont know about any cost of anything yet but theres a start for you.

To the person with the lights that were bad since they got the car, you will probably need to remove it from the car to see exactly what is wrong with it.
