Question 1995 Escort LX

I took my rear brakes (drum type) apart to change the linings. I now have the linings installed but can't figure out how the adjuster works so the linings will seat so I can get the drum back on.
Anyone have any idea how this adjuster works?

Thanks in advance
Ron

there automatic and adjust as the shoes get wider apart... to de-adjust them push a screwdriver between the 2 gears (underneath the adjuster) and separate them slightly. they should spring back to the minimum setting. re-fit the drum and pump the brakes
